ECG conducted Flood Control Study to assess the flood impact on Mekaines RPS site, and provide mitigation plan to eliminate the potential risks of flood accumulation within the project site. The proposed Flood Mitigation System for the studied area is an infiltration Swale System, to collect and infiltrate the surface runoff into the soil and prevent flooding towards the project site. The system caters for approximately 73.0 ha of rural catchments submitted to Kahramaa.
The catchment hydrograph, generated from HEC-HMS software model, is used to develop a two-dimensional model in order to define the flood plain limits in the flow scenarios.

1,200 MLD pumping station, sited at NEOM desalination plant tank farm, and a culverted twin 2,000 mm dia. carbon steel potable water transmission system.

The pumping station discharges through a 65 km twin 2,000 mm dia. transmission system to the High Point Reservoir, while a 37 km similar gravity twin transmission system conveys water to Gayal.

Future provision within the pumping station will enable the later addition of three further piping systems to give an overall capacity of 2,100 MLD.

Full infrastructure and electrical sub-stations and support facilities are provided at the pumping station site. The 100 km buried pre-cast culvert is sized to accommodate a third future 2,000 mm dia. pipeline and includes connection chambers, washout, and air release facilities.

The scope includes system hydraulics, surge/transient analysis and protection measures, and full instrumentation and control.

ASHGHAL aims at developing Al-Wakra and Al-Wukair sewage treatment plant including the following components: Terminal Pump Station (TPS), screen shaft, pump shaft, odor control facilities, Treated Sewage Effluent Pump Station (TSE), Sewage Treatment Work facilities (STW), liquid treatment facilities, sludge treatment facilities, Treated Sewage Effluent facilities (TSE), TSE storage facilities, 6 deep injection wells, multi-purpose lagoons, ancillary buildings and facilities, and Kahramaa facilities.

The pump shaft and STW facilities are designed based on 2024 flow horizon with an average flow of 150,000 m3/day, while the screen shaft is designed based on 2045 build-out flow of 600,000 m3/day.

The site proposed for the TPS, STW, and subsequent future expansions is located approximately 35 km south of Central Doha and covers approximately 1,500 hectares (ha), where foul-sewage is transferred to the TPS and STW via the network.

With a total capacity of 800,000 m3/day, the plant is considered one of the largest sewage treatment plants in Alexandria and serves around 4 million people. It is a huge and pioneering project with respect to generating electric power from solid waste; where the resulting sludge is digested to produce methane gas that is used to generate electric power, thus improving the environment and reducing emissions & energy use. The generated electricity covers about 60% of the plant’s energy consumption.

The project comprises two sludge mixing and transfer tanks (125 m3 each), gas holders (5,000 m3), four-floor sludge digestion building (footprint area of 380 m2 and built-up area of 1,480 m2), digester tank (16,000 m3), digested sludge storage tank (2 x 1,250 m3), waste gas burner, biogas treatment unit, boilers building, and a powerhouse.
