Organised by the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association in collaboration with the Egyptian-East African Business Council, the forum was held on the 4th of May at the Cairo Marriott Hotel. The aim was to highlight the role of Egypt’s private sector and government in advancing future plans for the integration of business communities in the 26 countries of the COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite. The tripartite is an umbrella organisation consisting of three African regional economic communities:

  • Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA)
  • East African Community (EAC)
  • Southern African Development Community (SADC)

A number of government officials concerned with the consolidation of business relations among African countries attended the event. Other effective, key figures in Africa—including Egyptian and foreign businessmen, consultants and contractors—were also in attendance.

Mr. Amr Allouba, ECG Chairman was present at the forum, together with other members of ECG Board of Directors; namely, Mr. Hesham AbdelKawi, ECG VP & Chief Financial Officer and Mr. Moheb Marcos, ECG VP & Head of Business Development Division. Mr. Marcos gave a presentation on ECG’s role in improving the infrastructure sector in a range of African countries.

The event witnessed presentations by a variety of other speakers, including the ambassadors of Somalia and Zimbabwe in Cairo. The topics addressed by the speakers focused on infrastructure, regional financial integration, transportation and logistics.
