The treatment plant is located in the northeast of Cairo. It receives wastewater from Cairo City via culverts and pumping stations forming a wastewater conveyance system. Following treatment, the final chlorinated effluent is discharged into Al-Gabal Al-Asfar Drain, and the
thickened sludge is dewatered before disposal.<\/p>\n

The existing Al-Gabal Al-Asfar Wastewater Treatment Plant involves two stages, each consisting of two phases. Stage I (under operation) is designed to provide treatment for an average raw wastewater inflow of one million square meters per day.<\/p>\n

Stage II is constructed in two phases and has been designed to handle an average raw sewage inflow of one million square meters per day. Phase I of Stage II is currently under operation with a capacity of 500,000 m3<\/sup> \/ day.<\/p>\n

Phase II of Stage II consists of the following processes:<\/p>\n
