{"id":4958,"date":"2017-04-24T11:27:01","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T12:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ecgsa.com\/?project=middle-egypt-water-and-wastewater-master-plan"},"modified":"2020-02-12T14:40:37","modified_gmt":"2020-02-12T14:40:37","slug":"middle-egypt-water-and-wastewater-master-plan","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/www.ecgsa.com\/project\/middle-egypt-water-and-wastewater-master-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Middle Egypt Water and Wastewater Master Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starting from the late eighties the USAID funded a series of projects aiming at improving the water and wastewater systems in the three &ldquo;Middle Egypt Governorates&rdquo;; Fayoum, Beni Suef and Minia. In 1995, the USAID funded<br \/>a mega-scale project to develop water and wastewater master plans covering the three governorates.<br \/>The project involved the assessment of existing conditions, in terms of the adequacy and quality of the water and wastewater services, as well as the assessment of the physical conditions and O&amp;M of water and<br \/>wastewater facilities. A long-term strategic plan until the year 2022 was developed for the three governorates.<br \/>High priority projects were identified and recommended&nbsp;for design and construction. Within this context, preliminary designs and design\/ build contracts were prepared for the following components:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kohafa Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Fayoum Governorate (activated sludge treatment of capacity 120,000 m3 \/ day)<\/li>\n<li>A Wastewater Treatment Plant in Beni Suef Governorate (secondary treatment of capacity 60,000 m3 \/ day)<\/li>\n<li>Two Water Treatment Plants in Beni Suef and Minia Governorates of capacity 330 liter\/ sec each.<\/li>\n<li>Wastewater collection system in Beni Ebeid district, Minia Governorate.<\/li>\n<li>Pump station and wastewater networks improvements in Mina City, Minia Governorate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The scope of work comprised the following interrelated tasks, and the results were compiled in a single master plan for each governorate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Existing Conditions: provide an integrated description and evaluation of the present status of water supply and wastewater collection and treatment services, systems and facilities in each governorate, including the physical condition and current capabilities in operation and maintenance of these facilities. Develop a Geographic Information System (GIS) for the existing and new water and wastewater facilities in the three governorates.<\/li>\n<li>Privatization: Conduct a study and provide recommendations, which would lead to development of opportunities for private sector participation in the water and wastewater sector in the governorates.<\/li>\n<li>Identification of High Priority Projects: Determine those facilities considered to be the most critical importance to the immediate improvement of sector services, within the criteria established in the scope of work for the selection of such facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Long-Term Strategic Plan: Prepare a twenty year (through 2022) strategic plan for the least-cost solution for the future development of water supply, sanitation and wastewater collection and treatment facilities.<\/li>\n<li>First Stage Investment Program: Develop a least cost,&nbsp;priority and affordable first stage investment program to meet the estimated needs in year 2007 for the adequate provision of water supply, sanitation and wastewater collection and treatment services.<\/li>\n<li>Implementation Plan: Prepare a study and a plan, including the required investment and operation and maintenance costs, for the implementation of the First Stage Investment Program.
